A collaboration between VISP (Bergen, Norway) and Adiacenze (Bologna, Italy)

We are excited to announce a new open call dedicated to artists affiliated with VISP, in collaboration with Adiacenze, art space located in the historic center of Bologna, Italy.
Two Norway-based artists will be selected to take part in a one-month residency from November 1st to December 1st, 2025, using Adiacenze’s exhibition venue as a shared studio. This residency is an opportunity to develop your artistic practice, engage with the vibrant cultural scene of Bologna, and experience a period of focused research and exchange in one of Italy’s most dynamic cities.

Adiacenze offers:

- Full access to the space, both ground floor and basement, including on-site workshop, equipped for woodworking and stocked with basic materials and tools.
- curatorial mentorship and support
- networking opportunities with local professionals through organised studio-visits and open-studio event visibility through Adiacenze’s communication channels

About the space

Adiacenze is located in the heart of Bologna, at a 3-minutes walk from Piazza Maggiore. The space has a total area of 250 m2, and it develops on two levels: a ground floor with entrance, office, bookshop and a first exhibition room; a basement with a second exhibition room and workshop. Its space is a former tapestry workshop and shop. The connection with its own history and that of the city is still visible and present, which makes it a unique setting for contemporary art. Extremely distant to the neutral white cube model, it challenges and stimulates artists to engage a dialogue of mutual transformation between the artworks and the space, working site specific.

Adiacenze
Adiacenze is a curatorial collective and art space dedicated to the experimentation, production and dissemination of contemporary art. Established in Bologna in 2010, its mission is to foster the development of artistic research through innovative, site-specific projects. Quickly gaining recognition as a pivotal player in the national contemporary art landscape, Adiacenze has been producing and showcasing the works of emerging and mid-career artists from both national and international spheres.
Guided by a distinctive curatorial approach, Adiacenze collaborates closely with artists, supporting them throughout their creative journey from conceptualization, production, to exhibition setup. By nurturing an environment of research and experimentation, Adiacenze empowers artists to push boundaries and explore new artistic territories. Furthermore, the curators of Adiacenze actively cultivate a network of interdisciplinary professionals, fostering connections and collaborations that enrich the artistic process.
Adiacenze’s diverse range of activities includes an exhibition program and a series of public events such as talks, performances, lectures, workshops, and presentations hosted in its space in Bologna. Additionally, Adiacenze has partnered with renowned national and international institutions, including the Italian Institues of Culture in Madrid, Oslo and Prague, MAMbo - Museum of Modern Art of Bologna, National Gallery of Rome, Raccolta Lercaro, Fondazione Rocca dei aBentivoglio, AMaC Unibo, Dep. Visual Arts Bologna, CRICC - Research center for the cultural and creative industry, DHMoRe - Research center on digital humanities, Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna and in Milan, Robot Festival, Digicult, DEMO Moving Image Festival (UK), KOMA Gallery (Belgium), Hordaland Kunstsenter (Bergen), NKF - Nordic Art Association and Hägerstensåsens medborgarhus (Stockholm), CUBO Unipol.
Since 2018, Adiacenze has also curated the exhibition program at Casa della Cultura “Italo Calvino” in Calderara di Reno, and in 2020, it launched Prospettive, a network of artist residencies sponsored by Regione Emilia-Romagna across various cities. In 2022, Adiacenze initiated SWAP, an exchange art residency project in collaboration with the city of Bergen, Norway, supported by the European Union, the Italian Cultural Institute of Oslo, OCA (Office for Contemporary Art Norway) and the City of Bergen.
