Cameraless animation è un workshop di due giorni condotto da Yasemin Orhan, che si terrà il 17 e 18 gennaio 2026 presso Adiacenze. Traendo ispirazione dai dispositivi ottici pre-cinema e dalle prime pratiche sperimentali di animazione, il workshop esplora le immagini in movimento e la narrazione senza l’uso della videocamera. Lavorando in condizioni volutamente low-tech, si inizierà con un’introduzione ai giochi ottici e alla produzione di immagini tramite scanner.
Il workshop si svolge come evento collaterale di raccolta fondi per il prossimo episodio pilota di To Catch A Nut, una serie TV di commedia erotica co-diretta da Yasemin Orhan e Nisan Denizci. Il tema condiviso del workshop è “intimità”, affrontato in senso ampio attraverso narrazioni personali, astrazione materica ed esplorazione ludica. Il workshop è aperto a un massimo di 12 partecipanti. La partecipazione a entrambe le giornate è consigliata, ma non obbligatoria, poiché ogni giornata combinerà momenti di presentazione e sessioni pratiche. Il primo giorno sarà dedicato al contesto storico e alle basi tecniche, con dimostrazioni pratiche che introdurranno l’animazione a fotogrammi attraverso zootropi, flipbook e marionette ritagliate. Il secondo giorno approfondirà l’animazione senza camera attivando dispositivi tramite movimento e luce e lavorando con scanner per produrre sequenze animate. Durante il workshop sono previsti momenti di condivisione, proiezioni di film d’animazione e opportunità di lavoro sia individuale sia collettivo. Il workshop si concluderà con la realizzazione facoltativa di un’installazione collettiva che presenterà gli oggetti e le animazioni sviluppate nel corso delle due giornate.
La partecipazione al workshop ha un costo di 15 euro.

Bio
Yasemin Orhan (lei) è un’animatrice e artista indipendente con base a Bergen, Norvegia. La sua pratica si fonda sulla messa in scena di storie che indagano come le identità personali e condivise si influenzino reciprocamente nelle dinamiche politiche quotidiane. Ha conseguito un BFA al RISD e un MA presso l’Accademia d’Arte di Bergen.

Cameraless Animation is a two-day workshop led by Yasemin Orhan, taking place on 17 and 18 January 2026 at Adiacenze. Drawing inspiration from optical devices that predate cinema and early experimental animation practices, the workshop explores moving images and storytelling without the use of a camera. Working in deliberately low-tech conditions, we will begin with an introduction to optical toys and scanner-based image making. The workshop is held as an adjacent fundraiser event for the upcoming pilot episode of To Catch A Nut, an erotic comedy TV series co-directed by Yasemin Orhan and Nisan Denizci. The shared theme of the workshop is “intimacy,” which will be approached very broadly, through personal narratives, material abstraction, and playful exploration.
The workshop is limited to a maximum of 12 participants. Attendance across both days is encouraged, though not mandatory, as each day will combine presentations with practical sessions. The first day will focus on historical context and technical foundations, with hands-on demonstrations introducing frame animation through zoetropes, flipbooks, and cut-out puppets. On the second day, we will further explore cameraless animation by activating devices through motion and light, and by working with scanners to produce animated sequences. Throughout the workshop, there will be sharing sessions, screenings of animated films and opportunities to work both individually and collectively. The workshop will conclude with the creation of an optional collective installation presenting the objects and animations developed over the two days. Participation in the workshop costs 15 euros.

Yasemin Orhan (she/her) is an independent animator and artist based in Bergen, Norway. Her practice is rooted in staging stories about how personal and shared identities influence one another in everyday political dynamics. She holds a BFA from RISD and an MA from the Art Academy in Bergen.
